One person is not an organisation
The false picture to remove first: that using AI more is the same thing as building capacity. It is not. A professional who chats with a model forty times a day is doing the same job as before, faster in places. Every task still starts in their head, runs through their hands and ends with their sign-off. Chat-shaped use improves single tasks and changes nothing about how work is organised. Six months of heavier use later, the calendar looks identical, because the shape of the week is set by how work is routed, not by how quickly any one exchange goes.
There is a progression, and most people stop at its first step. AI as a tool: you invoke it, it answers, you continue. AI as an assistant: it holds context on your current task and works alongside you within it. AI as a coworker: it holds a defined role with defined outputs, and work in that role reaches you for review rather than for execution. AI as a coordinated workforce: several coworkers with distinct roles, with you as director, deciding what gets done, in what order, to what standard, and who answers for it. That last clause does not move. The digital coworkers in this course carry no accountability and replace no one's authority. They extend the capacity of the person directing them, and that person answers for everything the workforce produces.
To direct work you must first see it in categories rather than as an undifferentiated stream. The course uses six kinds of work, and every task in your week belongs to one of them.

Leadership is the category delegation never touches, because it is where authority and accountability live. Knowledge, Administrative, Customer and Growth are where most delegable volume sits. Control is the odd one out, and it is the one most people forget to plan for.
Every task that leaves your hands acquires a new task: verifying its output. Delegating ten reports does not remove ten tasks from your week; it replaces ten production tasks with ten review tasks, which are smaller but not free. Control is the only one of the six kinds that expands as the workforce does. The course returns to it in Level 5, where control becomes a designed function rather than a guilty afterthought.
Accountability deserves plain words early, because you will need them with other people. If a client asks whether AI produced their deliverable, the wrong answers are denial and apology. The right answer names the structure.
Say it that way because every clause is true of a properly run workforce and false of chat-shaped use. If you cannot say "to standards I set" honestly, you have not set standards, and Levels 1 and 5 exist to fix that.
The claim that a team of agents outperforms a single one has a measured basis, and the measurement carries a bill. An internal evaluation of a multi-agent research system found it outperformed a single agent by 90.2 per cent on breadth-first research questions, the kind with many independent directions to pursue at once, at roughly fifteen times the token cost of ordinary chat, and token use alone explained about 80 per cent of the performance variance (Anthropic, 2025). Read that last figure carefully. Most of the gain came from spending more compute in parallel, not from an emergent property of teamwork, and the evaluation was internal and not budget-matched, so it shows what orchestration buys when you pay for it, not whether orchestration is the cheapest way to buy it. What you do differently: when a parallel structure impresses you, ask what the same spend would have bought a single role before crediting the org chart.
Budget-matched comparisons now exist, and they cut the other way. Two independent 2026 studies gave single agents and orchestrated teams matched inference budgets on reasoning tasks and found the single agents equalling or beating the teams (Tran and Kiela, 2026; Jwalapuram et al., 2026), with one of them measuring the orchestrated versions at roughly ten times the inference cost. What you do differently: treat anyone selling you a team of agents as a speed upgrade on a single hard task as ahead of the evidence, and ask for their budget-matched comparison before believing the demo.
The honest synthesis has two halves. Parallel roles pay on breadth-first work: wide reading, many sources, many independent directions, tasks where the workers do not need each other's intermediate state. They do not pay as raw performance on tightly coupled work, where each step depends on the last and coordination overhead eats what parallelism gained. A proposal is tightly coupled; a survey of forty suppliers is breadth-first. The same workforce can be the right structure for one and an expensive detour for the other, in the same week.
So why does this course build a workforce of roles at all? Because the case for roles in a one-person organisation was never a throughput case. A defined seat can be held to a card, reviewed against a written standard, audited from a register, and kept consistent across months. Those are control properties, and they survive the budget-matched finding untouched, because a single undefined assistant has none of them at any price. Expect role structure to buy clarity, auditability and consistency first, and throughput second, and only on breadth-shaped work. When a role exists so that its failures can be located, a study showing it is not faster has not touched the reason it exists.
